Dakota is a 17 year old, 15.1hh, Quarter Horse gelding. Dakota was rescued from the Richmond, VA area. He has spent the several years in a pasture on his own with minimal human interaction and riding. After a visit from animal control, due to malnourishment and neglect, his owner got some help from a vet. The vet later suggested he contact VEWS and consider turning over his horse. VEWS immediately intervened and brought Dakota into our program.

Bella is a 7 year old, 14.2hh, Black/White/Tovero Paint Cross Mare. She has beautiful markings and a very sweet face with soft eyes and delicate features. Bella was seized, along with 70+ other horses from a Virginia Farm in 2015, due to neglect. Bella was very timid and not used to being handled by humans. The organization that generously took her in initially, did not have the necessary training to help Bella overcome her fear of being handled but did provide her with a safe home, where she had food and shelter. VEWS agreed to accept her and she has been with us since December 2016.
Her groundwork training has begun, along with some work to help rebuild her confidence and trust of humans and heal her spirit. She is slowly making progress. During her training sessions, she has demonstrated that she learns quickly, is building confidence and is beginning to trust humans. Under saddle, she presently walks and trots very calmly. We have had children and adults ride her and she is very responsive.

Mohawk was foaled on June 17, 2015 to our rescued registered paint mare, Raven. He has personality plus. He has been gelded and weaned. We have been practicing natural horsemanship with Mohawk, and he does a great show of running the cavalettis and taking tiny jumps. He leads, walks over tarps and enjoys playing with his ball. We have no information on his jack (sire), but it appears “Mo” may reach close to his dam’s size (15hh). We are requiring an adopter to be experienced with mules so he will be properly trained. He would make an amazing partner for someone who can continue to train him to his full potential. Mohawk is up-to-date on vaccines/farrier/Coggins and is now available for adoption to an approved home. Interested in adopting? Click here for our adoption requirements.
